Welcome to 2023-2024 School Year

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! Teachers and students are enjoying getting to know each other again, inhabiting new spaces, and establishing daily routines with much laughter and joy. Though the dust is still settling in the new SOL building, everyone seems to be appreciating the additional space and reduced congestion in the hallways.

The on-going campus-improvement construction, the GS playground and the new outdoor basketball / futsal area, is targeted for completion at the end of August. I would like to give a “shout out” and express deep gratitude for the incredible work of all our employees, but especially our GA Team who worked tirelessly over the summer break and for many long days these past several weeks to prepare the campus for our use. Their efforts were nothing short of heroic!

With an expanding campus and student population, the common challenges to growth will inevitably occur. Disconnection, mission drift, even, heaven forbid….bureaucracy. Managing change and growth requires careful commitment and attention to maintaining the original vision and a healthy culture. Paul Tripp writes, “You can’t separate grace and community. God promotes his work of grace in our lives by calling us into community with him and his people.” So. much. truth. We experience our own need to offer grace and to receive the grace of God the more we experience life in community. As we embark on this 20th anniversary of CBCS, we have much for which to be thankful. I look forward to leading our community this year through the CBCS story to discover times of God’s grace and movement. My prayer is that our moments of reflection on His grace as evidenced in the past, will inspire us to consider our present moment, and renew our purpose for the future, not only as a school, but within our personal stories as well.

Grammar School

IMG 1867The first years of schooling are called the “grammar stage.” CBCS Grammar School is comprised of students from Grade 1 to Grade 6. The grammar stage are the years in which the building blocks for all other learning are laid. In the elementary school years the mind is ready to absorb information. Children at this age actually find memorization fun. During this period, students will begin to learn of facts. Students will learn such things as the rules of phonics and spelling, rules of grammar for English writing and speaking, poems, the vocabulary of foreign languages, the stories of history and literature, descriptions of plants and animals and the human body, and the facts of mathematics.

School of Logic

IMG 1616solBy fifth or sixth grade, a child’s mind begins to think more analytically. The “logic stage” is a time when students begin to notice cause and effect, how different fields of knowledge relate, and the way facts fit together into a logical framework. These students begin to develop their natural capacity for abstract thought while continuing to nourish their curiosity.

Our academic goals for the School of Logic students include learning how to become self-learners, learning how to manage their schedules and demands, and learning how to think critically and logically.

This is where the students are trained to become future leaders equipped with Christian worldview and technical skills to go out into the world and become culture changers. Building on the first two stages of the Classical Trivium, students in the “rhetoric stage,” will learn to write and speak with confidence and originality. They learn to apply the rules of logic to the basic information learned in the early grades.
